12 nights / 13 days Cycling Tour in Sri Lanka

Day 01 : Arrival / Negombo

Upon arriving in Sri Lanka meet and assist at the airport by our representative and transfer to Negombo from the Bandaranayake International Airport for your first night.

At a convenient time, your Cycle guide will familiarize you with what to expect whilst cycling on Sri Lankan road.

Negombo consists of a canal built by the Dutch and numerous churches too. The area is famous as a fishing village. It is also home to many species of avifauna such as Kingfishers and Parrots. Souvenir shops and restaurants are not scarce in Negombo. Diving, catamaran trips and boat trips are some popular leisure activities among the tourists who visit Negombo.

Relax and energize as the next few days will be quite exciting.

: Arrival / Negombo
Day 02 : Negombo / Dambulla.

After Breakfast Set off from coastal Negombo to experience the inland delights of Sri Lanka. Cycle over 45km along a picturesque route passing rice paddy fields to the town of Kurunagala. Look out for the towering Lord Buddha statue upon a rock which from far is the town's landmark. You will find that the fairly straight roads are of soft and moderate standard.

Enjoy lunch at a delightful local restaurant in Kurunegala. After which you would back your cycles away and continue your journey to Dambulla by vehicle.

En route we stop your drive at one of the more unusual temples buried in a maze - the Golden Cave Temple, where a great series of caves have been turned into temples (dating from the 1st century BC). A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the caves are a mecca for crowds of worshippers and we will visit five separate caves, containing a large number of Buddha images, as well as a few sculptures of Hindu Gods.

Negombo / Dambulla
Day 03 : Dambulla / Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast as today your endurance will be challenged. Begin by cycling towards the towering rock fortress of Sigiriya - a 5th Century "Fortress in the Sky". Over these 55km of moderate standard, you will be passing the Minneriya jungles, the dry zone farms as well as observing village life.

We'll park the bikes and walk through the old water gardens before climbing 300m to the view the ruins of King Kasyapa's summer palace on the summit.

Sigiriya is a massive rock which was transformed into a citadel during the reign of King Kasyapa, according to history. The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. The rock fortress is famous for its frescoes and the mirror wall. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning. It is the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka

Once the visit to this world heritage site is finish continue your journey to Polonnaruwa by vehicle.

In the evening you can enjoy the village safari.

And also on the way you can experience the boat ride in the village ….
In the jungle people have arrange Sri Lankan refreshments and also you can see how village foods are prepared.

Ride 30 km

Dambulla / Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa
Day 04 : Polonnaruwa / Minneriya / Polonnaruwa

After Breakfast take a morning cycling tour of one of the better kept ruins of ancient Ceylon - the UNESCO World Heritage City of Polonnaruwa, which was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th - 13th century A.D.

Today you will be cycling about 40km on soft surfaces as you whizz between the ruins.

Polonnaruwa which became Sri Lanka's royal medieval capital in 1073 and remained Sri Lanka's capital until the late 13C.

Today, the ancient city's ruins remain in remarkably good nick, and are a fascinating site to visit.

The most impressive are the ancient sculptures of Lord Buddha at the Gal Vihara cut into Granite stone dating back to the middle of the 12th century.

The entire sculpture consists of four colossal statues of Buddha - a samadhi image in meditation posture, a seated Buddha image inside a cave, a standing Buddha image which is 23 ft in height, and recumbent Buddha image measuring 46 ft, depicting the passing away.

Prior to visiting the ruins, it is recommended that you visit the Polonnaurwa Archeological Museum which provides a clear explanation of the Polonnaurwa kingdom.

After our visit Polonnaruwa we continue riding to Minneriya .

In the afternoon visit the Minneriya safari park.

Minneriya National Park , the 12th National Park of the country and extends 8889 hectares. Entrance is at Ambagaswewa about 6kms from Habarana on the main Habarana Polonnaruwa road. Office is by the side of the main road.

Elephants, about 200 wild elephants, wild buffaloes, wild boar, spotted deer, sloth bear, sambhur leopards, crocodiles, jackals, 9 kinds of amphibians, 25 kinds of reptiles, 160 species of birds, 26 varieties of fishes, 78 varieties of butterflies are recorded from the Minneriya Sanctuary.

Ride 30 km

Polonnaruwa / Minneriya / Polonnaruwa
Day 05 : Polonnaruwa / Mahiyanganaya.

After Breakfast leaving Polonnaruwa and start you're riding through paddy fields.

After 60km ride we proceed to Mahiyanganaya. Check in to dambana camp site.

The Dambana Vedda village is home to the last remaining tribe of the indigenous people of Sri Lanka.

Dambana Vedda Village Sri Lanka Joining the Veddas of Sri Lanka in their village gives visitors a unique opportunity to get a firsthand experience of the Vedda culture which remains relatively untarnished by modern technology and commercialization.

The Veddas are devoted to their traditions and visitors get to meet with Uruwarige Wanniyaleththo, Chief of the Veddas.

In the evening visit Vedda Village & meet the chief of the Vedda community – Wanniyaleththo.

In the evening you can enjoy a hearty barbecue meal in the magical setting of the silent wilderness.

The campsite is lit up with traditional flame torches and a roaring campfire.

Ride 60 km

: Polonnaruwa / Mahiyanganaya
Day 06 : Mahiyanganaya / Kandy

After Breakfast visit Vedda village.

Veddas were famously known for their rich meat diet, derived from the animals they hunted in the forest.

They will not hesitate to depict to us the pros and cons of hunting and enact how they set about it.

Watching them making their traditional bow & arrow- made out of natural material- too would be another interesting activity.

After their activities leaving from Vedda village & proceed to your next destination to Kandy.

From here we drive to the town of Kandy.

Mahiyanganaya / Kandy
Day 07 : Kandy

After Breakfast visit Temple of tooth relic.

Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is one of the most scenic cities in Sri Lanka; it is both an administrative and religious city. It is also the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) which houses the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha, one of the most venerable places for the Buddhist community of Sri Lanka and all around the world. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.

Day 08 : Kandy / Nuwaraeliya

After Breakfast we will continue the ride to Nuwaraeliya.

The ride which may appear to be challenging, is through humid, hilly terrain.

The journey through tea plantations will be enthusiastic and an unforgettable experience. Terraced paddy fields are also a common sight within the region.

Nuwara Eliya lies in Hill country, and is supposed to be one of the coldest places in Sri Lanka but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night.

Furthermore, the architecture styles and tea plantations which are of British influence gave Nuwara Eliya the name "The Little England".

Ride 60 km

Day 09 : Nuwaraeliya / Rathnapura.

After Breakfast we start our journey out of the hills.

This is downhill trek and it's brings trills, fun and adventurous. Ride along the main road passing small town & tea estate.

It is the center of a long-established industry of precious stone mining including rubies, sapphires, and other gems.

Apart from gem mining, the city is known for rice and fruit cultivations. Large plantations of tea and rubber surround the city.

Tea grown in this region is called low-country tea.

Ride 30 km

Day 10 : Rathnapura / Yala.

After breakfast we proceed to Yala.

Yala National Park is renowned for the variety of its wildlife and its fine coastline (with associated coral reefs). But the key highlight here is the Sri Lankan Leopard. Yala National Park has the highest density of leopards living in the wild.

In fact, it is the world's best. It also boasts a large number of important cultural ruins, bearing testimony to earlier civilizations and indicating that much of the area used to be populated and well developed.

Day 11 : Yala / Mirissa.

After Breakfast continue rural country roads riding the last few KM along the main coast road to Mirissa and the perfect stop to what the sunset in the India Ocean.

Mirissa has a headland dividing its small fishing harbor from a beautiful curve of sandy beach with calm, clear waters. It's a low-key, peaceful spot that was once the preserve of backpackers but is now becoming more popular as travelers seek out quieter alternatives to Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa.

Mirissa has a reputation as a good spot for whale watching, too.

Day 12 : Mirissa.

After Breakfast full day free for exploration or relaxation, depending upon your mood. Morning is free you to enjoy some time on the beach.

Day 13 : Departure.

As all good things must come to an end, after breakfast, your chauffeur guide with comfortably take you to the international airport in time for your return flight.
